Royal String Quartet

Stephen Venables: Mister Everest - Journeys in The Steps of Eric Shipton
Albert Halls, Wednesday 8th February 2012 - 7.30-9.00pm. Stephen Venables talks about Eric Shipton, a legend in the world of mountain exploration. He took part in five Everest expeditions, but was best known for his lightweight, highly mobile approach to other, less famous, peaks. In this lecture, illustrated with stunning pictures, Venables mixes readings from Shipton�s inspirational books with his own experiences on the same mountain ranges. Venables is a mountaineer, author and lecturer and was the first Briton to climb Mount Everest without supplementary oxygen.

Peter Longworth
The Tolbooth Theatre, Stirling, Saturday 7th April 2012 to Saturday 7th April 2012 - Peter Longworth grew up in Scotland where he began his musical education as a trumpet player. His exposure to contemporary music as a member of the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland was the catalyst for his first forays into composition and in 2008 he was awarded a scholarship by the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he currently studies under composer, Matthew King.
