Loch Ard is only 1 mile from Aberfoyle on the Inversnaid and Stronachlachar B829. The loch is in three parts which are joined by beautifull waterways. The Loch is fresh water, and acts as the source of the River Forth. There are numerous cycle tracks around the Loch Ard and there is even a family friendly Sculpture Trail.
It provides excellent sheltered sailing water. The views around the Loch are magnificent, with Ben Lomond dominating the horizon to the West. The Loch Ard Sailing Club at Kinlochard is a dinghy sailing club affiliated to the Royal Yachting Association.
A major provider of Watersports on Loch Ard are Go Country who provide a variety of land and water based activities for both the Foresthills Leisure Resort and visitors to the area. Their Waterpark provides activities such as kayaking, their giant 'iceberg' and the 'human hampster ball'. They also provide mountain bikes for exploring around this beautiful loch as well as land based activities suchs as orienteering, hillwalking, orienteering and abseiling.
Loch Ard has quite a reputation for catching large pike and holds the current course fish record for Perch caught in Scotland (in 1989 J Walker caught a 4lb 14oz (2.210kg) perch). Fishing is allowed by permit from boats or bank. All are available to hire from Go Country. Fishing permits can also be obtained from many local outlets.
Overlooking Loch Ard is the Forest Hills Resort with its timeshare and self catering properties, Leisure Centre and Vital Fitness Club and the Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel.
