The Inversnaid Hotel on the shore of Loch Lomond

The peaceful haven of Inversnaid, in the heart of the Trossachs, offers you the opportunity to experience the beauty and serenity of the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. William Wordsworth and Queen Victoria are just some of the many visitors to Inversnaid that have been inspired by its tranquillity. Others include, the American writer, Nathaniel Hawthorne who came here in 1857 and greatly admired the Lochs and mountain views. And more interestingly it is believed that Robert the Bruce hid in a cave here during the Scottish Wars of Independence.

A leisurely drive from Callander and Aberfoyle, Inversnaid offers a variety of options and activities for a day's excursion to Loch Lomond. Choose from: a multitude of walks along the West Highland Way or visit the RSPB Nature Reserve; a cruise on Loch Lomond "Queen of the Scottish Lakes"; lunch in the Inversnaid Hotel or picnic beside the stunning Arklet Waterfalls.

You can also visit the cave in which the notorious outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor hid from the authorities in the eighteenth century. The cave is difficult to get to, however the stunning panoramic views of Loch Lomond and the Arrochar Hills make the scramble worth it! White paint indicates the position of the cave, so you cant miss it. Although a bit tricky at time, it is a great walk, with that little bit of added excitement for the kids.
