Balloch is a pituresque village located on the south edge of the shores of Loch Lomond. Balloch is taken from the gaelic 'bealach' which translates as mountain pass. This is likely to be in reference to the River Leven providing a pass between Loch Lomond and the Sea.
Balloch is historically famous for being animportant gateway for boats entering Loch Lomond during the 1800's. The Maid of the Loch, the last paddle steamer built in Britain, can be visited today at Balloch pier, on the shores of Loch Lomond. Sweeney's Cruises also provide a fleet of passenger boats which operate on the loch.
Balloch also hosts an annual folk festival during the month of July each year at the Moss O' Balloch Park in the centre of Balloch. Why not come along and sample the traditional Scottish Celidh atmosphere.
Balloch also has a railway station for easy access to Glasgow and central Scotland.
